What are the 8 dimensions of wellness?

Most of us think of wellness as eating right and getting to the gym, and I think that only covers about an eighth of it. The 8 dimensions of wellness split your life into eight parts: physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, environmental, financial and occupational. The version most people use comes from SAMHSA, the US government's mental health and addiction agency, and it's built on the work of Dr. Peggy Swarbrick.

I like to picture them as spokes on a bike wheel. Bend one and the whole ride gets wobbly, even when the other seven are in great shape. Nobody's handing out grades here, so think of it as a map of where your life stands this week.

What you'll find on 8dofwellness.com

There are over 150 plain-English guides on the blog, sorted by dimension, so you can go straight to sleep, stress, money or whatever's bugging you this week. I've also built eight free phone apps, one for each dimension, and none of them make you sign up or sit through ads. If you'd rather learn something in 30 seconds, the Wellness Quiz Hub channel on YouTube has quiz Shorts on all eight.

Then there's the shop, with tees, hoodies, mugs, bottles, journals and more that carry the wellness wheel, and my two guided anxiety journals on Amazon if you'd like the prompts laid out for you.
